HMF collaborated with Vidnyan Vahini (organization based in Pune) to form a Rural Science Centre in 2003. This was aimed to provide local high school students in the area with hands-on, participatory opportunities to learn about science. In 2007, a Science Center was built with lab facilities for physics, chemistry, and biology. Students of all ages visit the center with their school to spend a day learning about science and performing experiments in a fully equipped laboratory. Currently, three facilitators, all experts in various science fields, provide educational assistance to the students. This science center is connected with 36 schools and receives nearly 1000 students a year. The Rural Science center also holds a library with over 5,000 books on various issues.
